David Villa is one of the most explosive strikers in world football. After spells with Sporting de Gijon and Real Zaragoza Villa moved to Valencia in 2005. Since then he has one of the best goals to games ratio in Europe for his club side and national team. David Villa was the top scorer as Spain won the European Championship.


18th January 2010 - Valencia 4-1 Villarreal
Valencia cemented third place in the league with an impressive 4-1 victory over Villarreal at Mestalla. Ever Banega gave the home side the lead on 10 minutes. David Villa scored from the penalty spot on the half hour mark to give Valencia a 2-0 half time lead. Los Che started the second period like they ended the first with David Silva getting in on the act with a side footed shot past Diego Lopez on 56 minutes. However Villarreal were thrown a climpse of hope when Alexis got his sums wrong dealing with a ball over the top which enabled Nilmar through to make it 3-1 after 64 minutes. Mata had a goal disallowed for offside before David Villa wrapped up an empahtic win with his 14th goal of the season.


28th November 2009 - Valencia 1-1 Real Mallorca
Valencia will rue there missed chances as they failed to beat Real Mallorca at the Mestalla. David Villa scored on 49 minutes tapping in from close range Ever Banega's cross. Villa was quilty of a host of missed chances and Valencia were made to pay as Mallorca got there equaliser in the 86 minute of the match. A ball into Valencia's penalty box wasn't dealt with by Bruno who mis-headed the ball up in the air before bringing down Gonzalo Castro. Borja Valero stepped up and converted the spot kick. The result leaves Los Che in 4th place in La Liga just 3 points behind Real Madrid who have a game in hand.


18th November 2009 - Chelsea lining up Villa bid
Chelsea could make a bid for David Villa as the Blues had there transfer embargo lifted for the forthcoming window. However, Chelsea will not be allowed to buy players next summer or in the January transfer window after that. So Roman Abramovich is expected to flex his financial muscle with some high profile signings. Sergio Ramos is also on the short list but with Chelsea losing Drogba and Kalou to the African Nations Cup in January it is thought a striker is high on the agenda.


15th November 2009 - Spain 2-1 Argentina

Spain heaped more pressure on Diego Maradona as the lacklustre Argentine's went down 2-1 in Madrid. Spain took the lead through Xabi Alonso on 16 minutes. Lionel Messi equalised on 62 minutes converting a spot kick. Xabi Alonso scored his second from the penalty spot to seal the win for Spain.


28th October 2009 - Villa & Silva could both go
Valencia president Fernando Llorente has spoken of his delight to have held onto there prized asset during the summer transfer window. It is believed that Valencia turned down €42 million bids from both Barcelona and Real Madrid. This will not stop speculation in the future and it seems certain that Villa will leave to join a club with title aspirations.

David Villa was ruled out of Saturday nights 0-0 draw at home to Barca. The striker picked up a hamstring injury at Racing last week.


19th October 2009 - €42 million offers from Barca + Real turned down
Valencia president Fernando Llorente has spoken of his delight to have held onto there prized asset during the summer transfer window. It is believed that Valencia turned down €42 million bids from both Barcelona and Real Madrid. This will not stop speculation in the future and it seems certain that Villa will leave to join a club with title aspirations.

20th July 2009 - David Villa Could Be Forced To Stay Put
David Villa's much protracted transfer move away from Mestalla may not happen this season. The two clubs leading the chase for his signature, Real Madrid and Barcelona, have tied up deals with other targets. Real Madrid opted for Karim Benzema earlier in the transfer window, which cleared the path for Barcelona to sign the Spanish hitman.

However Barca are now close to securing the signing of Inter Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic with Samuel Eto'o moving in the opposite direction. It is expected that David Villa will speak out shortly over the matter and let everyone know that he will be staying with Valencia for another season.


7th July 2009 - David Villa Transfer Latest
The David Villa transfer saga continues but with Valencia's new chief Vicente Soriano back in charge of the club there is light at the end of tunnel. David Villa had been taken off the market by Los Che despite making his thoughts known to the clubs directors that he wanted to leave. Real Madrid and Barcelona are involved in a two horse race for the strikers signature after Villa declared his intention to stay in Spain.

The bookies have Barcelona as the new favourites at 4/6, Real Madrid are 7/2, Valencia are also 7/2 to keep hold of there player. Outsiders are Man City 12/1, Man Utd 20/1 and Liverpool 20/1.


30th June 2009 - Transfer Market About To Open
The 1st of July signifies the beginning of the European transfer circus. As of tomorrow morning players can sign for other clubs. Kaka and Ronaldo will be unveiled at the Bernabeu and a host of other clubs will begin there dealings as vast sums of money will be spent this summer. Valencia, who are in heavy debt, claimed the other day that Villa was taken off the market and not for sale. Don't believe that for a second, it's standard negotiating practice to try and ramp the price up.

The bookmakers have Real Madrid as 4/11 favourites to sign David Villa, with Barcelona second favs at 9/4. Valencia are 11/2 to keep hold of there player, with Manchester City the outsiders at 6/1.


18th June 2009 - Real Madrid - Smoke and Mirrors
Real Madrid appear to be certain to land the signature of David Villa after the Spanish star made it his wish to be playing at the Bernabeu next season according to the press in Spain. It seemed like Barca were going to steal the little hitman but now it appears the deal with Madrid is now on. Significant developments are now expected over the next few days.


16th June 2009 - Villa - Madrid or Barca?
David Villa seems almost certain to leave debt laden Valencia this summer. Los Che have a mountain of debt and look resigned to losing there star striker to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Madrid were the initial front runners with a rumoured bid of €25 million plus Alvaro Negredo. However, Barca are believed to have tabled an offer of €50 million - €40 million cash and Martin Caceres. Highly rated youngster Bojan Krkic could also be loaned out for a year to help sweeten the deal.

The counter offer has left Real's director-general Jorge Valdano conceding defeat in the race for the Spanish hitman. Reported interest from Chelsea has cooled after David has made it clear he wishes to stay in Spain. Real Madrid look as though they will have to sell before they can buy.


9th May 2009 - Valencia 3-0 Real Madrid
Valencia ended any hope Real Madrid had of catching Barcelona with an emphatic 3-0 victory at the Mestalla. Mata opened the scoring on 29 minutes after some fantastic pass and move football from Los Che. Davis Silva made it 2-0 after 33 minutes as his shot was fumbled by Iker Casillas and crept into the bottom left hand corner. Valencia put the game out of reach in the 67th minute when Pablo floated the ball in from the right hand side and Baraja fired a magnificent volley from outside the area passed Casillas.


13th April 2009 - Sporting Gijon 2-3 Valencia
Valencia moved into fourth place in la liga and above Villarreal who lost 2-0 to Malaga. Los Che took the lead twice in this match first through David Silva which was cancelled out by Sporting's David Barral. Then David Villa returning to his former club converted a penalty after 55 minutes which was cancelled out by substitute Mate Billic on 70 minutes. Valencia then won the game with 3 minutes left to go through striker Mata. Sporting Gijon battled hard but this result leaves them just three points above the drop zone. Valencia still have much work to do to book there place in the Champions League next season. They sit just a point above Villarreal and three points above both Atletico Madrid and Malaga respectively.


22nd March 2009 - Racing Santander 0-1 Valencia
Valencia ended a run of 6 league matches without a win by beating Racing 1-0 away from home. Substitute Mata Garcia scored the only goal in the 78th minute. Valencia were reduced to ten men after the sending off of Alexis for a second yellow card just 20 seconds into the second half. Los Che who were without David Villa, David Silva (both injured) and Carlos Marchena (suspended) battled there way to an unlikely victory. Racing missed a penalty in the last minute of the match.

The result leaves Valencia in 6th place, 5 points behind Villarreal who occupy the 4th Champions League spot.

David Villa looks as though he will return for Spain's World Cup Qualifier against Turkey after recovery from a knee injury. The Spanish International has begun full training.


23rd February 2009 - Deportivo 1-1 Valencia
David Villa scored his 19th goal of the season before being sent off in the 76th minute as Valencia's poor away form continued. Los Che had lost 5 away games in a row before today and this result heaps more pressure on manager Unai Emery whose team are now 2 points behind 4th placed Villarreal.


19th February 2009 - Villa's Agent: City Link Nonsense
Manchester City are being linked with a move for Valencia's David Villa again. Cash rich City with there Arab owners are constantly scouring Europe for the best players and with money not an object anything is possible. However with Kaka rejecting a £100m move to Eastland's it's making it harder for the top players to follow suit with fear of being called greedy, especially as City are struggling to make the Uefa Cup next season let alone the Champions League.

David Villa is also being linked with a move to Chelsea but Villa's agent is adamant that if he does move it will be to another club in Spain instead of England. So that just leaves Real Madrid or Barcelona then.


12th February 2009 - Spain 2-0 England
David Villa continued his impressive scoring record for Spain against a lackluster England side that was missing a number of key players. Villa latched onto a pass from Liverpool's Xabi Alonso to make it 1-0 in the first half. Llorente scored a header in the second half to wrap up the victory in this friendly international.
