David Villa is one of the most explosive strikers in world football. After spells with Sporting de Gijon and Real Zaragoza Villa moved to Valencia in 2005. Since then he has one of the best goals to games ratio in Europe for his club side and national team. David Villa was the top scorer as Spain won the European Championship.

The 1st of July signifies the beginning of the European transfer circus. As of tomorrow morning players can sign for other clubs. Kaka and Ronaldo will be unveiled at the Bernabeu and a host of other clubs will begin there dealings as vast sums of money will be spent this summer. Valencia, who are in heavy debt, claimed the other day that Villa was taken off the market and not for sale. Don't believe that for a second, it's standard negotiating practice to try and ramp the price up.

The bookmakers have Real Madrid as 4/11 favourites to sign David Villa, with Barcelona second favs at 9/4. Valencia are 11/2 to keep hold of there player, with Manchester City the outsiders at 6/1.

Real Madrid appear to be certain to land the signature of David Villa after the Spanish star made it his wish to be playing at the Bernabeu next season according to the press in Spain. It seemed like Barca were going to steal the little hitman but now it appears the deal with Madrid is now on. Significant developments are now expected over the next few days.

16th June 2009 - Villa - Madrid or Barca?
David Villa seems almost certain to leave debt laden Valencia this summer. Los Che have a mountain of debt and look resigned to losing there star striker to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Madrid were the initial front runners with a rumoured bid of €25 million plus Alvaro Negredo. However, Barca are believed to have tabled an offer of €50 million - €40 million cash and Martin Caceres. Highly rated youngster Bojan Krkic could also be loaned out for a year to help sweeten the deal.

The counter offer has left Real's director-general Jorge Valdano conceding defeat in the race for the Spanish hitman. Reported interest from Chelsea has cooled after David has made it clear he wishes to stay in Spain. Real Madrid look as though they will have to sell before they can buy.

9th May 2009 - Valencia 3-0 Real Madrid
Valencia ended any hope Real Madrid had of catching Barcelona with an emphatic 3-0 victory at the Mestalla. Mata opened the scoring on 29 minutes after some fantastic pass and move football from Los Che. Valencia put the game out of reach in the 67th minute when Pablo floated the ball in from the right hand side and Baraja fired a magnificent volley from outside the area passed Casillas.

Los Che took the lead twice in this match first through David Silva which was cancelled out by Sporting's David Barral. Then David Villa returning to his former club converted a penalty after 55 minutes which was cancelled out by substitute Mate Billic on 70 minutes. Valencia then won the game with 3 minutes left to go through striker Mata. Sporting Gijon battled hard but this result leaves them just three points above the drop zone. Valencia still have much work to do to book there place in the Champions League next season. They sit just a point above Villarreal and three points above both Atletico Madrid and Malaga respectively.

Valencia were reduced to ten men after the sending off of Alexis for a second yellow card just 20 seconds into the second half. Los Che who were without David Villa, David Silva (both injured) and Carlos Marchena (suspended) battled there way to an unlikely victory. Racing missed a penalty in the last minute of the match.

The result leaves Valencia in 6th place, 5 points behind Villarreal who occupy the 4th Champions League spot.

David Villa looks as though he will return for Spain's World Cup Qualifier against Turkey after recovery from a knee injury. The Spanish International has begun full training.

23rd February 2009 - Deportivo 1-1 Valencia
David Villa scored his 19th goal of the season before being sent off in the 76th minute as Valencia's poor away form continued. Los Che had lost 5 away games in a row before today and this result heaps more pressure on manager Unai Emery whose team are now 2 points behind 4th placed Villarreal.

19th February 2009 - Villa's Agent: City Link Nonsense
Manchester City are being linked with a move for Valencia's David Villa again. Cash rich City with there Arab owners are constantly scouring Europe for the best players and with money not an object anything is possible. However with Kaka rejecting a £100m move to Eastland's it's making it harder for the top players to follow suit with fear of being called greedy, especially as City are struggling to make the Uefa Cup next season let alone the Champions League.

David Villa is also being linked with a move to Chelsea but Villa's agent is adamant that if he does move it will be to another club in Spain instead of England. So that just leaves Real Madrid or Barcelona then.

12th February 2009 - Spain 2-0 England
David Villa continued his impressive scoring record for Spain against a lackluster England side that was missing a number of key players. Villa latched onto a pass from Liverpool's Xabi Alonso to make it 1-0 in the first half. Llorente scored a header in the second half to wrap up the victory in this friendly international.
